Napoleon

April 29, 2010

I’ve been listening to a series of podcasts about Napoleon, and the two guys narrating the thing LOOOOOVE him. Is it possible they are right and I’ve been wrong about him all these years? Maybe I’ve had my mind poisoned against him from reading the Patrick O’Brian series. Maybe, I will have to change my whole view of the man and his accomplishments.

I’m going to mull on this.

I leave the City and what, 4 hours later, you start posting about Patrick O’Brian? Were you wearing a three-cornered hat when you were so inspired? You know I’m coming back to New York. and I have a long memory.

How uneducated can you possibly be. The hat you sent an image of is of the American Colonial era. Napoleon, the subject of my post, was Emperor the French, France being a small country located in Western Europe, not the Americas. Additionally, if it is my fondness for the O’Brian novels that you were seeking to attack, you must, or certainly should, be aware that the Americans have a very small presence in the books, and usually as a foe. At the turn of the century (18th to 19th) the Americans and the English were not friends, the English still smarting from the spanking we gave them in our Revolution, so neither side was likely to imitate the other, and the tri-corner hat you propose that I wear is American. I remain,

      sincerely yours (and GFY),

I only skimmed that, but do I take it correctly that you’re a Red Coat?
