I Can’t Stand Bud Selig

June 3, 2010

But for once, he is right.

Bud Selig refused to “overturn” Jim Joyce’s bad call and “award” Armando Galarraga a perfect game retroactively. And that’s exactly right.

There have been many bad calls in baseball history. Including a lot of bad calls a whole lot more meaningful than this in playoff games and the World Series. Those Commissioners had the same “best interests of the game” powers as Selig, and nobody went back and changed the record books. What happened happened, and that’s it.

I thought overturning the pine-tar decision was dumb, and this would have been dumb too. You can’t rewrite history. Armando Galarraga was robbed of a perfect game by a bad call. So be it.

What if the bad call was in the 5th inning? Would we be having the same argument? No. Let it be.

The most interesting thing about the clip is how empty the stadium was. Upper deck empty, bleachers half full, lots of empties in the field boxes.

And, the continued game was watched by only 1200 people. I never knew the extent of the PTI. THANK YOU HEG for enlightening me.
