Classic

You know what’s a solid, underrated, and spectacularly old-school candy?

Candy Buttons (made, of course, by Necco — Fine Candy Since 1847).

I’ve got some. And, if you don’t mind a little paper in your mouth, I could be persuaded to share.

Sugar stuck to paper, a classic indeed; one whose candiness no reasonable person would question, and yet, if were to open a sugar packet and pour onto my tongue I would be met opprobrium. Tell me how it is different.

It comes in pretty colors. And it’s stuck to the paper. Totally different.

They look a little like blotter acid, you got any of that shit lying around?

      Nope. Some stale catnip though.

It always seemed like a lot of work for a little candy.

Getting there is half the fun.

I really enjoyed the hands-free convenience of a Gobstopper.

I used to get these at the Smithville Inn when I was like five years old, and then spend the ride up the Parkway home eating them and accumulating little spitty scraps of paper. Ah, memories.
