All Things Must Pass

December 18, 2010

Marty takes a last visit to the soon-to-be-gone Max Fish:

There’s no sense in reviewing Max Fish since it’s going to be closed in about eight weeks. Instead I applaud Ulli Rimkus for creating a space where artists and free-thinking people could gather, drink, share ideas and display their works. The cliental has changed somewhat since the bar has opened, but some of the old regulars remain and it stills retains a vibe of the East Village of yesterday. I wish Ulli all the best luck finding a space for the new Max Fish and I raise a glass to the old one. The New York Times reports that on the last night, January 31st, the staff plans on painting the walls in pitch black paint. Paint it black, people, paint it black. Cheers to Ulli Rimkus and Max Fish.

It’s funny. I remember when Max Fish seemed like the cutting edge of the “new” LES that was creeping into the territory of Katz’s, Yonah Schimmel and The Hat. Now, to some extent, I guess Max Fish has become a victim of what it started. Good place, run by good people. Always a shame to see a place like that go. What’s it gonna be now, an Abercrombie & Fitch?

Even worse, last night I found out that The Stoned Crow is closing due to steep rents and another greedy-ass landlord. Fuck.

Man, I don’t know if Mac over at Mac n Chi’s has heard about this, but he’s going to be really pissed off about the Stoned Crow shutting down.

“to some extent, I guess Max Fish has become a victim of what it started”. It never stops, and especially not where you wanted it to stop.

It gets worse, EV Grieve reported today that Hickey’s is closed. This is an epidemic!
