There She Is

January 16, 2011

Saturday evening Teresa Scanlan, 17, of Nebraska was crowned 2011’s Miss America. I’m sure her family and her fellow Nebraskans are quite proud of her achievement, she is the first Miss America from the Corn Husker state in the 90 year history of the pageant. I think they should have had to wait at least until next year. She is a terrible choice for a number of reasons. First, she’s too young, what the hell does she know, other than how to win a pageant? Second, she aspires to be a lawyer and then enter politics, I guess I’ve got no problem with that, but she holds the repellent belief, as she expressed to the judges, that, according to the L.A. Times: she thinks security trumps the public’s right to knowledge when it comes to leaked government information. I will mostly stick to this blog’s policy of staying away from politics but wonder when did this enormous, rich and powerful country become so frightened of freedom, and in such a hysterical and cowardly fashion. Moving on, thirdly, her looks are kind of fishy, I don’t mean suspicious, I mean she looks a little like a fish. And finally, that Miss Arkansas did not win on points from the talent competition alone is fucking travesty. Here is some video of Miss Arkansas, Alyse Eady, performing her yodeling ventriloquism act:

Also, Miss Delaware is bald. She suffers from alopecia areata

Wow. When I was a child I used to watch the pageant and for the most part, the contestants were lovely and talented. I guess the lovely and talented have found other things to compete for.
