Jackasses

March 16, 2011

It’s raining here in New York. It’s not a down pour but it’s more than a drizzle and people are lined up around the block to buy the ipad 2. Tomorrow is going to be sunny and 60, they can’t wait a day?

I’m on a plane. Is it raining a lot? But enough about me.

Yes, people are morons. And they insist on proving it over and over and over again. Thankfully we are here to keep pointing it out.

Well, apparently there is at least a partial non-jackass explanation:

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) — Entrepreneurs are buying up iPad 2s at Apple’s flagship store in Midtown Manhattan for resale at higher prices in China, customers and staff say.

The New York Post reported it observed a “ringleader” handing out rolls of cash to underlings who cleaned out the store within minutes Tuesday.

“We buy from here, then sell,” the newspaper quoted one as saying. “The ones we bought today are already on their way to China,” where they are not yet on sale.

The top-of-the-line iPad 2 retails for at most $829, but the group’s leader said it would be “best if you bring $2,000” to buy one.

An employee in the store, quoted anonymously, said, “Listen, we all know what’s going on here. I find it sad and disgusting. These people are preventing ordinary folks from getting their hands on an iPad.”

An event planner — who asked not to be named for fear of being blacklisted by the store — said, “I talked to the manager at the store. I said, ‘They’re dealing them right now upstairs on private property.’ … They said, ‘There’s nothing we can do.'”
