Kent Desormeaux, one of the great jockeys in recent times, ran into some trouble up in Saratoga Springs:

Report: Desormeaux Arrested at Saratoga
by Blood-Horse Staff

Jockey Kent Desormeaux was arrested at Saratoga the evening of Aug. 31 after he attempted to strike a security guard with his car, police said.

The Saratogian newspaper of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., reported that Desormeaux was charged with reckless endangerment. Saratoga police told the newspaper city police officers stationed at the racetrack saw the incident and arrested Desormeaux.

The security guard was not injured, and police said alcohol wasn’t involved. Desormeaux was released and is scheduled to appear in city court Sept. 1, the Saratogian reported.

Through Aug. 31 Desormeaux was ninth in the Saratoga jockey standings with 13 wins from 52 mounts. He had the highest win percentage among the top 10 jockeys.

Kent, Kent, Kent. Now that I think of it, I do recall seeing Desormeaux at a bar in Florida not far from Gulfstream a few years back, but that’s neither here nor there.

Anyhow, he should not be trying to run people down. Here’s Kent up on Big Brown winning the 2008 Kentucky Derby.

It’s difficult to know whether one would be better off being run over by a thoroughbred or a car. I guess it depends on what Kent drives.
