The A’s

March 6, 2012

A couple of weeks ago I pointed out to anonymous guy and jco that if things broke the right way (meaning that Phil Hughes got bumped from the rotation into the bullpen), the Yankees would end up with a starting rotation of pitchers whose last names all ended in the letter A:

Pineda (I would have thought the n there had a tilde, but apparently not)

This struck me as unusual but, lacking any connections at the Elias Sports Bureau, I couldn’t think of any way (other than curling up with baseballreference for several weeks) to confirm this. Well, luckily, the far better connected Wall Street Journal stole my idea:

I’m rooting for this. Not because I have anything against Phil Hughes; I don’t. It’s because I thought of it first.
