Smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em

I hear that cigarettes are now close to 15 bucks here in NYC.  That’s a lot of scratch.

That got me thinking about the old Chesterfield ads.  My grandfather smoked 3 packs of unfiltered Chesterfields a day for 50 years.  Then proceeded to lose his sight and passed away from something (apparently) completely unrelated to smoking. Go figure.

Later in life he switched over to cheaper smokes, which I always thought was kind of sad.  Check out the guys who smoked Chesterfields:

Yeah, smoking is bad for you, and it’s a nasty habit, and even though I was against it at the time, banning smoking in New York bars seems to have worked out pretty well.  But like lots of other old things that are bad for you, I now have a bit of nostalgia for that stuff.

Man, I’m getting old.

I remember buying packs of Marlboro reds out of a machine at the bowling alley for 50 cents. I’m feeling old too!
